Almaty was until fairly recently the former capital of Kazakhstan and it is situated between mountains and plains. It is a city of modern architecture, interesting and unusual fountains, parks and spectacular mountain views |

Health Risks | Hepatitis A and E, cholera, diphtheria and undulant fever. Tuberculosis is endemic throughout the country. Typhoid is on the increase in Almaty. Climate | Kazakhstan has a continental climate. Winters are long and cold with snow cover lasting from 50 to 150 days depending on the region while summers are short hot and dry with an annual rainfall of 9 inches. Average temperature ranges in the north are from -18°C in January to 19°C in July, while in the south it ranges from -3°C in January to 30°C in July |
