Volunteering - N to T

The volunteering section for courses and projects is vast and below we list more organisations that offer courses where they are looking for volunteers while you are on your Backpacking trip and those taking a Gap Year. They offer a range of courses and we have categorised these as all these courses are on a voluntary basis where you can help with local communities and projects abroad.

While you are deciding which courses are of interest don’t forget to consider our Backpacker Travel Insurance. A great choice for anyone looking to travel for long periods and take part in work placements or volunteer programmes.

Outreach International

This organisation offers trip lengths from one to six months. If you can only manage one month you could visit Mexico, Costa Rica and Ecuador. In Cambodia you could find yourself working in an Orphanage in Phnom Penh or try teaching young children in rural areas unable to travel to the larger towns for their education. You could also choose to help out in crocodile conservation in Mexico along the pacific coast or help out in Nepal in one of their street children programmes or on in a school for the deaf and blind. www.outreachinternational.co.uk

Real Gap offers over 170 trips for volunteers to engage in, the main areas are community, wildlife and conservation. You could take a teaching position in Thailand within a small community or in one of the many children’s homes for impoverished kids who all need to learn English. A more hands on approach to helping in a community can be found in helping to construct homes in Guatemala along with assistance in areas such as health and education; this programme can be undertaken in two to six weeks. www.realgap.co.uk
