There are some items that you just can’t go without especially if travelling abroad on your gap year here are a list of the most important:
- Working visa
- Traveller’s Cheques
- Foreign currency
- Credit Card
- Passport
- Driving Licence
You will need to have had all the important jabs and to have taken any anti malaria tablets in advance of your trip.
Essential equipment to take
- Sturdy walking boots will save your feet when you’re on the move
- Hardwearing rucksack. A 60-litre size is recommended for girls and 75-litre for guys
- You’ll need a sleeping bag and mat: choose one that is warm, but remember you are probably carrying it so as compact as possible
- A sheet liner is also essential for easy washing and use in hot weather
- Try not to over pack on clothes. Remember you can always wash what you have. Jeans are heavy so 1 pair should suffice and pack whatever clothes you may need if working abroad. Take a good fleece, these are light, easy to clean and very useful on those cooler evening. Good walking boots, already worn in to avoid blisters
- Some toiletries are essential and we suggest loo roll, toothbrush and toothpaste, small tube of liquid soap and/or moist cleaning tissues
- First aid products, including antiseptic cream, plasters, analgesics and insect repellant
- A water bottle should be carried and filled up at all times
- Travel insurance documents
- Sunglasses
- Sun cream
- Camera
- Diary/notebook
- Mobile phone
- A torch and battery recharger will come in handy in places where there is no artificial light
