Backpacker Travel Insurance with Medical Conditions

Having an existing medical condition should not automatically inhibit your travel plans and at we can offer additional cover for hundreds of medical conditions, (excluding psychological conditions.)

It is important when purchasing your travel insurance that you declare any medical condition that you may have or that you may have had in the past, especially when it is connected to the heart. Once a medical condition(s) have been disclosed to us through a series of questions, we will offer to inlcude additional cover if we can.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer our travel insurance unless, once a condition is declared, the additional premium has been paid. Travel insurance for people with existing medical conditions is designed to provide cover for the normal risks associated with travelleing abroad but also to cover your specific conditions so that if you were to fall ill abroad you will be covered for any emergency treatment that may be required.

What is a pre existing medical condition?

If you have answered 'Yes' to the questions below, you must tell us, in order to obtain cover for your medical condition(s), although an increased premium or excess may be required to do so.

To enable us to consider your medical condition please contact World First on: 01392 287 418 9.00am-5.30pm Monday- Friday 9am-4pm Saturdays

Should we require any additional premium, and you accept our offer, this should be paid to travellers health check, and sent within 14 days of our offer.

Should you decide not to pay the additional premium the declared medical condition will not be covered. Full confirmation of our terms and conditions will be sent out to your address after your call. Any additional medical conditions not declared to us will not be covered.

Have you, or anyone travelling with you ever had treatment for:

  1. Any heart or circulatory condition?
  2. A stroke or high blood pressure?
  3. Breathing condition (including Asthma)?
  4. Any type of Cancer?
  5. Any type of Diabetes?
  6. Has your doctor altered your regular prescribed medication in the last 3 months?

In the last 2 years - have you, or anyone who is travelling with you, been treated for any serious or re-occurring medical condition, asked to take regular prescribed medication, or referred to a specialist or consultant at a hospital for tests, diagnosis or treatment?

Are you are waiting for any tests, treatment or a non routine hospital appointment?

Do any close relatives, business associates or friends who are not travelling with you or who are not insured with us have an existing medical condition (even if considered as ‘stable’, under control or in remission)?

How do I declare a medical condition?

Declaring a medical condition is easy. When you arrive at the medical declaration part of the booking process you can declare your condition(s). You will be asked a series of questions relating to your condition(s). Once the condition(s) and any other related condition(s) have been declared and relevant questions have been completed, we will offer a price to cover the conditions, there are circumstances whereby we are unable to cover some conditions, this will be made clear at the end of the process.

If you are unsure then you can always call our friendly call centre staff who can guide you through the process over the telephone.

Please remember failure to declare all medical conditions to us could result in any claim being rejected.
